Level 1-3 Course, Candidate

This course addresses the working at height requirements when using portable ladders for short duration access. 

We provide each candidate with the underpinning knowledge and practical skills to safely use fall protection equipment with leaning ladders to cover both property elevation and pitched roof access. During this training candidate will be introduced to 3 working
levels where equipment is used for fall protection:

Level 1 – Maintaining 3 points of contact at the head of the ladder.

Level 1-2 – Maintaining 3 points of contact while ascending/descending the ladder. 

Level 1-3 - Accessing a pitched roof.


The course includes:

  • An appreciation of UK legislation including the work at Height Regulations.
  • Understand the difference between the fall arrest / work restraint and the importance of correct anchorage.
  • Understand method for fitting, usage and inspection of equipment specified for this course.
  • Outline the access procedures for portable ladder usage including pitched roof working.
  • Outline the main hazards of roof working.
  • Completion of practical exercises using and fitting equipment and securing the ladder.
  • Conducting a practical ladder exercise at a height of approximately 6 metres.
  • (This height is given for guidance only. It does not place an absolute limit on the activities of trainees following a course).
  • Conducting a practical ladder exercise demonstration the equipment transfer methods when accessing a pitched roof.
  • Self Rescue Awareness.
  • Completion of a written assessment to confirm understanding of course content.

Materials: Candidate guides will be issued to each attendee. 

Attendees: Maximum 6 

Pre-requisites: Training and experience in the use/inspection of ladders.  Each candidate must attend with Tetra Level 1-3 Kit.  All attendees must be medically fit to work at height – Completion of a medical statement sheet is mandatory. 

Certification: A Tetra Certificate and ID Card will be issued upon successful completion of the course and assessments.  This will be valid for 3 years from date of course.
